Those who enter my office probably doubt there’s any organization to the stuff on my desk, but they’re wrong. I know what’s there and where everything is. In fact, those loose papers are more organized than my computer or “smart phone.”
In fact, I was travelling on the Kentucky turkey hunt a few weeks ago. Because of weather I landed late at the Nashville Airport, grabbed my rental car and picked a freeway going north. I put some miles between the airport and me when I decided I better call my hosts to let them know I was running late. “Hmmmm. Where did I put that number?”
To avoid losing valuable time and beat the building thunderstorms I didn’t want to stop and search through the paperwork I’d brought with me. My boss works late every night – even later than I do. So I figured it would be a pretty good bet to catch him at the office. Sure enough; he was still there!
I asked George to go into my office and retrieve the number from my desk. He did, but when he walked in I heard him groan on the line. I knew he thought he’d spend an hour searching through that mess of papers.
Nope! I was able to direct him to the exact stack where he quickly found the number. See! Despite how my desk may look, I’m even organized from 800 miles away.
All of that is the long way around to telling you I keep a special stack on my desk of “free stuff hunters would like to win.” Whenever it builds to a few items in it, I’ll pass it along to you so you, too, can benefit from my stellar organizational skills:
Here’s what the stack contained this morning:
