As proof that some people have too much time on their hands, I bring you this Christmas/hunting clip.

The word "tactard" is not real word at all. It's a made-up word to describe a specific kind of person. I didn't make the word up. I wish I knew who did. However, I'm generally given the credit someone else deserves. If you're the father of this word or know who is, my apologies.

Whenever I set up to do some calling, I always try to predict where the predators are lurking and thus where they'll appear. Nailing that aspect of a stand correctly gives me one of the biggest kicks I get from hunting. Too often I get it wrong, however, and end up learning another lesson about part-time hunter vs. full-time predator. Recently, a couple of coyotes taught that lesson so well I almost swallowed my call.

Following last week’s press conference (see video below) by National Rifle Association Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre, speaking on the horrific crime that recently took place in Newtown, Connecticut, many mainstream press reporters and commentators appeared genuinely confounded when he didn't embrace the passage of strict gun-control measures and a reinstatement of the 1990s ban on the manufacture and sale of certain firearms and gun components.

In my past life I was an unruly student at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. It was there where I began forging my future as a wordsmith. Beyond the tens of thousands of dollars paid to fund Starbucks-addicted, liberal journalism professors, I also spent a big chunk of change learning from conservative educators about natural resources.

Many hunters across the Great Plains and Midwest just battled a deadly winter storm. I was one of them. My battle wasn’t with the storm, but with the logistics to wrap up filming on a TV show and get home before the wintry conditions stranded me. I won. Even if you were hammered by the storm, it can be a winning situation for you as well. How’s that, Kayser?

If you're a deer hunter or simply love hunting for shed antlers, you should consider using scouting cameras after you hang up your bow and/or gun for the year.

I know “Star Wars” wasn’t filmed in space, and I have a healthy skepticism of any photo or video I see posted online.

Is this video showing a golden eagle lifting a baby off the ground legit? I’m not sure. If it’s fake, it’s pretty good computer-generated deception.
