Sunrise tomorrow morning- my deer season begins (evil maniacal laughter) and I can't wait!  Spending tonight getting gear all lined up ready for the 'morrow!  This is the 1st time ever I'll be able to load the gun and walk out the back door and hunt without a long drive to my deer woods.  It'll be interesting.  There is at least 1 decent buck haunting my land based on a rub and deep prints I have seen.  I am using my latest acquisition tomorrow, a .58" 1841 Mississippi rifle with a patched ball over 60 grs of FFFg.

I let a decent buck walk opening day of last year's ML season.  Had him aimed at, hammer cocked and finger on the trigger for several seconds, but decided to let him go for another year.  Hope to find him tomorrow as randy as he looked last year.  As it went last year I didn't get out very often and missed shooting anything all year after that 1 encounter.  Something must die soon!  It's wierd how it gets after a while and you have not drug something - anything out of the woods, ain't it?

Good luck Shiloh,I'm hunting my own land as well this year. Yesterday afternoon I had 5 deer in my driveway. Tomorrow, I don't expect to see a track after 0600 , they know!

Ye, hope you get they buck. I let a nice wide 6 pt go a few years ago, two or three times during the season I could have shot him. But wanted an 8pt or better. Never saw him during hunting season again. couple of times in the fields around the house but that was it. Nothing like hunting your own place, have been doing that sense 2001 and enjoy taking care of my own property. Like getting out other places to hut too though. Our rifle season opens the 14th. And yea they seem to have the date posted in their tiney little deer brains as they disapear every year on that date.

Well, I was able to get out before dawn and to my "place" when it was just light enough to see.  Put out some Trails End and settled in.  I was only able to stay out until 10am but managed to see 2 small does.  No bucks came in for me, but it was sucessful in that 2 deer were there and were mine had I wanted them.  I also saw 2 small bobcasts which was cool.  Both were the size of a house cat.  One was playing along the fence, climbing it a few feet and dropping and climbin again.  As I watched, amazed at seeing a live bobcat up close, I heard a low cat-like growl behind me.  I looked over my shoulder and lo! and behold! there was another small bobcat not 10' behind me looking at me.  About as soon as I realized he was there, he reversed and bounded off through the broomsticks.  The 1 by the fence was gone as well.  They were small so I wonder if they were the same 2 kits that the wife and kids saw with a momma cat on the driveway a few months ago.  Cool though.  Oh well, many more weeks of hunting are coming!

Have always wanted to mount a cat. Last one I shot was too messed up to mount. There must be a big one around someplace if the little ones were there. And daddy also. Sounds like a good day in the woods.

Way too many does on my place. Perhaps I may take a nice young and tasty doe when rifle season starts. :O) It has just been too warm to kill anything and get it refridgerated in time lately. Hopefully the weather will be cool enough by then.

The past few years all I have gone after have been does.  I was trying to increas my buck-to-doe ratio.  I know I have some bucks and I think 1 at least is a good one.  I have seen a couple here over the years that were decent and if they are still around they are probably beasties.

Wife took daughter to Nashville this morning, thus leaving me with The Mighty Mo-Mo all day.  I was thus not able to get out as early as I'd have liked and had to deal with a 4 yr old boy that thinks the order "stop moving, sit still and be quiet" only applies by the second.  I don't think we spooked any deer up close, at least none blew at us, but we sure did not see anything this morning for the 2 hrs or so we were out, nor did we see any the last 2 hrs of the day.  He had fun anyway.  I might try alone tomorrow evening one more time before gun season opens next week.
