Hunter Dies Of Self-Inflicted Wound

Letourneau Was Hunting Deer In New Hampshire

POSTED: 6:40 am EST November 2, 2009

New Hampshire game officials said a hunter has died of an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Officials said Timothy Letourneau, 21, of Rindge was hunting deer Saturday afternoon when the shooting occurred.

Game Department Lt. Craig Morrocco said investigators believe Letourneau was either in a tree or trying to get into a tree stand at the time of the shooting.

The Keene Sentinel said Letourneau and another hunter had permission to hunt on the property and police were notified of the shooting by the landowner.

Saturday was the opening day of deer hunting season for muzzleloaders. The ends Nov. 10.

Get careless or negligent, get killed.  Safety Always!!

I know young people get excited when they hunt and may forget to be safe, but this is what happens as a result.

May the Lord have mercy on his soul and grant him perpetual life in the happy hunting grounds.

A muzzleloader should NOT have a cap seated when raising or lowering to a treestand or at anytime it is not being actively used PERIOD.
