PrintEmail

Moose-Sized
Matt Plitt of Olive Branch, MS with his Alaska-Yukon Moose submitted for the 2007 Big Game Awards

The North American Hunting Club’s Big Game Awards are open to all NAHC members to receive recognition and prizes for hunting success. Any size North American big game animal, taken on a fair chase hunt in 2008, is eligible. Over 100 prizes that will be awarded with many ways to win…

Random Drawing
All entries are eligible for the random drawings, no matter the size. Winners are selected by the four hunting tool categories – firearm (including rifles & shotguns), handgun, muzzleloader, and bow (all bows & crossbows).

One Shot Kill Award
If you’ve taken any animal with one shot, you may submit a 1,000 word maximum story to enter.  Submit your story with the entry form and photos.  One story may be submitted for both the President’s Award & One Shot Kill Awards, but please indicate which award you would like your story to be considered for on the entry form.  Winner will be selected based on quality of story, photos, and game.

Top 10 Winners
The NAHC staff selects the 10 best animals based on size, location, the hunter, the hunt method, and photograph quality.

President’s Award
The President’s Award is the highest NAHC honor. If you would like to be considered for this prestigious award, submit your story (1,000 words or less) along with your photographs and Big Game Award entry form.  One story may be submitted for both the President’s Award & One Shot Kill Awards, but please indicate which award you would like your story to be considered for on the entry form.  In addition to being a Top 10 Winner, the wining story will be published in North American Hunter. Entries will be judged on size of the animal, circumstances of the hunt, photograph quality, and the quality of the story.

Congratulations Matt on getting a "MONSTER"!!! Hope you had 2 or 3 guys to pull him out of the river, because I'm sure it still was a load of work. I would be interested to know B&C score and get a couple of different views of the horns. Congrats Again! We are all dreaming of getting one that big now!

Smasher moose and a great photo. I was lucky enough to draw a coveted Maine Moose permit this year and dropped a dressed out 964lb bull last week. Doesn't even look close to the size of your moose. Congrat's on a great hunt!

Amazing! What a great bull--especially for a southern hunter! :o) You won't find many that are bigger. I've seen a few moose hunts; but unfortunately, haven't been on one myself. Seems the bulls often head to water after they're shot. I've even seen some sink out of sight--not much fun at that point. Enjoy the burger, sausage, jerky, steaks, etc., etc. Did I mention, amazing?

Great moose and a beautiful picture. I wish I was hunting with someone that had a good camera. I am a new member in 2008. I have been hunting since I was a teen, and though I have shot several deer I shot my first buck in Nov. 2008 gun hunt. I was 51 years old. Opening day I shot a 12 point buck that field dressed at 190 lbs. One point was under an inch long so it counted as an 11 pt. buck. Green score was 149 4/8". I took him with one shot in the shoulder with a 12 ga. shotgun. He is my first deer shot from an elevated position and he dropped in his tracks. Also this is the second time I hunted with a shotgun. I did not have a good enough picture to enter contest but I have a once in a lifetime buck mounted now. I know that there must be many other nice deer harvested this last season that will not be eligible. Thanks anyway.

you will need to build an addition to you house to hang this one must be nice. I shot a shirus moose in montana that scored 238 5/8 and it was a job getting it out and now the horns are so big that my 7 ft ceilings make it dangerous to hang them so they hang in my garage
